Counselors’ Corner

It’s March and spring is nearly upon us! Can you believe it? It’s been a busy month for me.  In the last few weeks, I went to a disaster relief chaplain training, helped out at the Point Man men’s conference at church, and attended one of my Awana boy’s funeral, Zach Little, who had fought cancer bravely for three long years.  Zach was only 11 years old. When I see someone so young die like that, it just makes me want to hug and kiss my kids and thank God for them everyday.  I am so blessed that each one of them was born healthy and has stayed generally healthy most of their lives, though there have been a few scares.  I have two healthy grandbabies and another on the way, so who could complain.  Sometimes they try my patience horribly but I love every one of them.  God is teaching me to love them anyway, even when they least deserve it, as that is how He loves us. My husband went to the Point Man conference and was tremendously blessed by that.  I worked the bookstore tables and got to hear most of it myself.  I was blessed to hear for the first time, a man speak out on domestic violence.  I’ve heard a lot of women speak out and I’ve been one of the loudest, but I’ve not heard any men speak to the issue before.  That was a real blessing to me.  We need to reach men with the message that this is not appropriate behavior, especially for Christian men.  There needs to be proper church discipline where this is concerned and not let it be swept under the rug of silence.

Well my current website has now gotten over 25,000 views and my old Factoidz website has just reached 100,000 views. I have been praying the Prayer of Jabez for many years now and God is bringing it to pass.  God bless me indeed and enlarge my territory.  Keep Your hand on me and keep me from evil that I might not cause pain. Amen This is a very short but powerful prayer when prayed in the right spirit.  That “enlarge my territory” part is surely what God is answering in my life now.  Never in my wildest imagination would I ever have dreamed I would be able to reach out to 125,000+ people with my writing.  I pray that God will use it for His glory only, and that I won’t get too proud of myself, as this certainly wasn’t my doing.  I finally finished Ezekiel and got it uploaded to my website, but I am not satisfied that it is finished.  I still need to do some work on it, but I’m going to leave it alone for now and move on to Isaiah I think.  I want to be faithful to finish the work God has given me to do, and I’ll let God worry about the results. As Br. Park said,  I am called to be faithful, not successful.  I believe we are in the last days before the tribulation and that time is essential to completing the great commission. We all need to be doing whatever we can to help get the job Christ has given us to do, done in a timely fashion.

I just got to see some of Sunny and Ben’s wedding pictures and they are beautiful.  I pray that God brings them back into His fold with His saving grace!  Tommy and Amanda are expecting their second child, a boy, who they will name Dakota on May 10th.  I’m looking forward to having my first grandson and hope to have many more! God said, “Be fruitful and multiply” and He never changed His mind to my knowledge.  Rose and David have moved into their new house, which is a nice big two story. I can’t wait to go up and see it, though I don’t know when that might be.  Jonnie completed his GED test and scored at 95% or above on every section but writing, which he scored at 84% I believe.  I’m so proud that he got this done and did well on it.  His next step is to take his ACT test and go on from there.  I know he’ll do something great eventually.  Merry is doing well in her school in NC and I trust that Rose is encouraging her.  She’s such a good big sister!  Selah and Joey are thoroughly enjoying being part of the homeschool co-op this year and have been making some friends and are learning much. We’ve done several field trips now and have loved being part of the group.  I’ve made several new friends myself and have enjoyed the adult company and they don’t mind putting up with me too much, so I thank God for that.  Selah and I just watched a film of Rachel Joy Scott’s father speaking after her death.  She was the girl who died at the Columbine school in the late 90’s during a school shooting.  We did some research afterwards, and I found the book about her on Ebay along with her diaries.  I’ve ordered them and we will be reading them for homeschool.  I can’t wait to get them in as this is a powerful story.

I just got my first two books published and they are available for sale on my website. They are A Little Redneck Theology and Other Stuff from a Southern Baptists Evangelical Female Ordained Minister and A Little Redneck Theology in Verse, which is the poetry I wrote during the time period of the first book. I never thought I’d see the day this would happen.  I’ve been looking for several years for a way to self publish and most places wanted several hundred to thousands of dollars to do it.  I finally by the grace of God, found out that I could do it on the Create Space website for just a few dollars.  They had a template to build my book cover, which was not too terribly hard to complete.  I had to edit the interior about three times to get it just how I wanted it. I pray that God will be able to use it in some small way.  I’ve sold only very few copies and am waiting for some feedback to see if I need to make further changes, but I trust that God will show me what, if anything, I need to change.

I’ve been working in my garden some and have planted most everything in cups to get them started.  In a couple of weeks or so I’ll plant them out when it’s warmer.  I’ve planted tomatoes, lettuce, cucumber, squash, onions, and several other things.  My buttercups and snow drops have just about finished their blooming and the azaleas and day lilies are beginning to come out and bloom. My blueberries, plums, and fig trees have buds and blooms.  The crepe myrtles are beginning to get their new leaves. I love spring, when everything is coning out of its winter sleep and is waking up anew.  My dogwood is just putting out its flowers and I can’t wait to see it in full bloom. Rocky just brought me some picket fence pieces that he got from some work he did at the hospital chaplain’s house after that last storm, so I want to put that around my garden I think.  I need some posts though and will have to wait till I can get some.  If anyone has about four wooden posts laying around, I’ll come get them! Well, that’s about it for now.  Merry spring everyone and God bless to all!

News Briefs

About mamaheartfilled

I am a mother of eight wonderfully challenging children and fourteen grandkids, of whom I am very proud. I am also a bi-vocational ordained evangelical minister, and a Christian Counselor. I received my B.S. degree in 2004, studying primarily in the areas of Psychology, with minors in Religion and English. I received my Masters Degree in 2009 in Psychological Counseling with an emphasis in Christian Counseling. I have endeavored to paraphrase the Bible, both Old and New Testaments. It is my hope that it will be of some use in the great commission of Christ. My ministry is primarily geared toward victims of sexual and domestic violence, including victims of childhood sexual abuse, whether currently or in the past. Since I have personally experienced the healing hand of God in overcoming many of the life issues that Christians may face, I feel qualified and compelled to discuss them in a truthful and open manner, as God’s word tells us that “We shall know the truth and the truth shall set us free.” God has brought me through such diverse tribulations as sexual, physical, and mental abuse, being a victim of a drunk driving accident, spousal pornography addiction, adultery, divorce, remarriage, a very brief, though unjust, incarceration, and having experienced multiple miscarriages and various other trials. I have been asked to leave two Southern Baptist Churches, due to my being a female, ordained as a minister, and fired from a SBC sponsored Christian School (mostly white) for speaking out against racial prejudice in the Family of God. Through God’s merciful forgiveness of my own sins and inadequacies and God’s grace given to me to forgive those who have been a stumbling block to me, I have overcome many of these adversities. God’s word tells us that “All things work together for good to those who love the Lord and are called according to the purposes of God." Since I have this hope, I believe that God has blessed me with the ability to confront and relate these issues to the Christian community around the world. I hope to be able to use my personal experiences as a ministry of God’s grace and in the comforting of the people of God with the truth of God's mercy. I claim II Corinthians 1: 3 & 4 as my calling, which states: “Blessed be God, the Origin of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Origin of mercies, and the God of comfort; who comforts us in all our troubles, that we may be able to comfort those who are in trouble, by the comfort we ourselves have been given by God.” As I have received the gift of God’s healing, I hope to be able to bring the peace beyond understanding to others with the message of God’s mercy and grace. My love for the Sovereign Lord of my life, Jesus Christ, along with my passion for writing has drawn me to explore these commonly experienced crisis issues from the perspective of my own experience in the hope that I may bring an empathetic and compassionate insight to God’s people. I am now a published author and have several books in publication, including my autobiography, "A Little Redneck Theology." The views expressed in my writings are strictly my own insights, acquired from personal experience and diligent study of the related topics and God’s word concerning them. Though I am an ordained minister, my views should not be considered authoritative. I believe that the Christian community’s ultimate authority is the guidance of the human heart by the Holy Spirit and the Word of God.
