Should Christians Watch the Superbowl?
The Superbowl has been a longstanding American tradition, but has it become a form of idol worship for Christians? Over the last decade, I have stood by and idly watched as church doors have been closed for Superbowl Sunday. Church schedules have systematically been rearranged and cancelled en mass for the festivities surrounding Superbowl Sunday.
In addition to it interfering with our church worship time, the TV commercials that sponsor this football game on Superbowl Sunday have become more and more risqué each year and this year was no exception. Just one of the commercials this year had a couple in bed together and advertised “Whatever you do in bed, Seally supports you.” Several other commercials had sexual innuendo and all of them occurred during a time when families were likely to be watching, needlessly exposing children to sexual themes and advertising
