Evidence of Giants Part II

So now that we can fairly ascertain that the giants existed in ancient times, who exactly were they, and where did they come from, and why should we care now? Genesis 6 gives us a general explanation of who they were and where they came from, but a more detailed explanation exists in the extra-biblical Book of Enoch.  The early Christians esteemed the Book of Enoch highly; it is quoted in the book of Jude, verses 14 and 15, and fragments were found among the Dead Sea Scrolls. First we’ll look at what Genesis tells us, and then compare that to what we find in Enoch, which has been a part of the Scriptures in the Ethiopian church for a very long time.

Then there began to be many more people on the earth, and daughters were born to the human beings. The fallen angels of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful and took any they wanted as their wives. Then Yahweh said, “My Spirit won’t always try to save human beings. Since their first wrongdoing, they only want to do what’s pleasurable to their bodies, so they’ll live no more than 120 years.”

These giant fallen angels lived on the earth in those days, and even afterwards, whenever they had sex with women, they gave birth to children who became the giant warriors who were well known since ancient times. Then Yahweh saw how great the evil of humanity was on the earth, seeing that everything they thought or imagined was only evil. So Yahweh was sorry for making human beings on the earth and God’s heart was greatly saddened.

So Yahweh said, “I’ll wipe this human race that I’ve created from off the face of the earth. Yes, and I’ll destroy every living thing, from the people to the animals, to the small animals that run around in the land, and even to the birds of the sky. I am sorry I ever made them.” But Yahweh saw that Noah was good (pure, had no mixture in him), and had grace for him. Genesis 6

This ought to make us shiver in our bones!  But my question was always, How did the angels do that if angels couldn’t have sex?  I found the explanation to that question in the book of Enoch.  It explained that the angels were not created to have wives and reproduce, but some of them wanted to do that and left their place in heaven for that purpose.  They appeared in a man’s body to the women and had sex with them, who later gave birth to the giants, who spirits were demonic.  So why should we care about this today?  Because there is a certain passage in the Book of Enoch that some people believe prophesies of a return of the giants in the last days.  What we do know from the Bible is that there were some things in the tribulation period that were so bad that God told John not to write them down.  What if the return of the giants is one of those things?  So what does the Book of Enoch say about the giants?

When human beings had increased and had beautiful daughters, some of the angels of God saw them and wanted them. And they said to one another, Come, let us choose wives for ourselves from the humans and have children by them.  And Semyaza, their leader, said to them, I fear that you don’t want to do this and that I alone will pay for this great sin. And they answered him and said, Let us make a promise and bind one another with curses, so that we can’t change our minds and carry our plan out effectively.  So they  all promised and bound themselves with curses.

They were two hundred in all, and they came down on Ardis, which is the summit of Mount Hermon. And it was called Hermon because on it they made their promise and bound themselves with curses… And they each took one wife for themselves.  And they began to have sex with them and were immoral with them. And they taught the women charms and spells and taught them how to use roots and trees (witchcraft). And the women became pregnant and had large giants…  And these giants ate everything man could produce until man could no longer sustain them. And the giants turned against them and started eating the humans.

And they began to commit sin against birds, animals, reptiles, and fish; and they ate one another and drank one another’s blood. Then the earth complained about the lawless ones.  And Azael taught men to make swords, daggers, shields, and armor.  And he showed them the art of making these things: bracelets, and ornaments, and the art of making up the eyes and beautifying the eyelids, and the most precious stones and all kinds of colored dyes.  And the world was changed.  And there was great immorality and much sexual sin, and they went astray and all their ways became corrupt. And Amazerak taught all those who  cast spells and used roots, Armaros, the release of spells, Baraqiel astrologers, Kokabiel signs, Tamiel taught the stars, and Asradel, the path of the moon.  And the humans cried for their destruction, and their voices reached heaven.  Enoch 6-8

So we see from this passage a bit more detail than the Genesis passage and what great devastation these fallen angels caused on earth.  They taught man the art of war, taught witchcraft and astrology, and brought great evil and destruction on mankind.  Where it says they committed sins against the birds, animals, fish, and reptiles, I think it means they began to mix with them sexually, as later passages talk about half-man-half-beast like creatures.  It would explain much of Greek mythology and its beasts, mermaids, and dragons, and many other things I always thought were fairytales.  Needless to say, if bestiality was part of their sin, and other creatures were born to them, then all of those myths may have been based on a measure of truth. But this is just pure speculation on my part.

What interests me the most is the prophecy concerning these giants reemerging on earth again.  In chapter 10, God goes on to proclaim judgment on them, and takes away their eternal life and gives them only 500 years to live.  God also says that they will fight one another until they are all dead.  Then in 10:12-14 God goes on to say, “When all their children kill each other, and when they see the destruction of their loved ones, they will be bound for seventy generations under the hills of the earth until the day of their judgment and end, until the judgment which is for all eternity is finished… together they will be bound until the end of all generations.”

This is the prophecy that some believe will take place in the last days of the tribulation.  If giants do have a revival of sorts, even if just for one day, how terrible that would be for those left on earth.  I pray that no Christian has to face that day, but should we remain on earth during the tribulation, then we may just have to face them, though God tells us He will be with us.  But God Word does say that the days will be cut short or no flesh would be saved.  So we know that all things are in God’s hands, who will make all things right in the final judgment of earth.

I can’t say for sure whether or not this prophecy has been interpreted correctly by those who believe the giants will have a comeback, but I feel Christians need to be prepared for the possibility that this may happen and we may be here to see it.  One thing that gives me comfort is that just like the children of Israel were spared the plagues of Egypt, even though they had to witness it; I believe that Christians will somehow be spared the judgments of the Revelation, though some of us may be here to witness it.  When God sent the flood on the earth all the righteous had died already, except for Noah, so it may be that we will have all died by this time of the tribulation.  We will experience persecution and death by the hands of the ungodly ones as the Revelation tells us, so we may all be with Jesus by this time.  What a day that will be!

About mamaheartfilled

I am a mother of eight wonderfully challenging children and nine grandkids, of whom I am very proud. I am also a bi-vocational ordained evangelical minister, and a Christian Counselor. I received my B.S. degree in 2004, studying primarily in the areas of Psychology, with minors in Religion and English. I received my Masters Degree in 2009 in Psychological Counseling with an emphasis in Christian Counseling. I have endeavored to paraphrase the Bible, both Old and New Testaments, for the last ten years or so and am working on a final edit, now. It is my hope that it will be of some use in the great commission of Christ. My ministry is primarily geared toward victims of sexual and domestic violence, including victims of childhood sexual abuse, whether currently or in the past. Since I have personally experienced the healing hand of God in overcoming many of the life issues that Christians may face, I feel qualified and compelled to discuss them in a truthful and open manner, as God’s word tells us that “We shall know the truth and the truth shall set us free.” God has brought me through such diverse tribulations as sexual, physical, and mental abuse, being a victim of a drunk driving accident, spousal pornography addiction, adultery, divorce, remarriage, a very brief, though unjust, incarceration, and having experienced multiple miscarriages and various other trials. I have been asked to leave two Southern Baptist Churches, due to my being a female, ordained as a minister, and fired from a SBC sponsored Christian School (mostly white) for speaking out against racial prejudice in the Family of God. Through God’s merciful forgiveness of my own sins and inadequacies and God’s grace given to me to forgive those who have been a stumbling block to me, I have overcome many of these adversities. God’s word tells us that “All things work together for good to those who love the Lord and are called according to the purposes of God." Since I have this hope, I believe that God has blessed me with the ability to confront and relate these issues to the Christian community around the world. I hope to be able to use my personal experiences as a ministry of God’s grace and in the comforting of the people of God with the truth of God's mercy. I claim II Corinthians 1: 3 & 4 as my calling, which states: “Blessed be God, the Origin of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Origin of mercies, and the God of comfort; who comforts us in all our troubles, that we may be able to comfort those who are in trouble, by the comfort we ourselves have been given by God.” As I have received the gift of God’s healing, I hope to be able to bring the peace beyond understanding to others with the message of God’s mercy and grace. My love for the Sovereign Lord of my life, Jesus Christ, along with my passion for writing has drawn me to explore these commonly experienced crisis issues from the perspective of my own experience in the hope that I may bring an empathetic and compassionate insight to God’s people. I am now a published author and have several books in publication, including my autobiography, "A Little Redneck Theology." The views expressed in my writings are strictly my own insights, acquired from personal experience and diligent study of the related topics and God’s word concerning them. Though I am an ordained minister, my views should not be considered authoritative. I believe that the Christian community’s ultimate authority is the guidance of the human heart by the Holy Spirit and the Word of God.
