A Treatise on Education Public, Private, and Homeschooling is a collection of my writings related to education of children in the various ways families choose to do so. Heavy on my heart, as I put this collection together, is the recent school shooting of the Connecticut elementary school, where 20 children and several adults were murdered in cold blood by a ruthless young man gone mad. I cannot fathom one of my own eight children being put in that situation, which is partly why I am choosing to home school my two youngest children at this time. I find it strange though that I just recently had my daughter read the diary and story, Rachel’s Tears, of a young girl, Rachel Joy Scott, who was killed at Columbine, one of the first tragic school shootings, for a home school assignment this year, and then another tragic school shooting occurs. Rachel virtually prophesied of the massacre to take place before it happened in her diary. Her father’s testimony is a very moving account of the circumstances surrounding her last year or so of life.

In such a world as this, where mentally ill people are left to wander our streets, even when known to be dangerous, and where schools have little or no security means, and have all been deemed “gun free zones,” where only the criminals have guns, I wonder how we can protect our children from tragedies like these. Education is and should be one of our highest priorities for our children, but what is education without emotional and physical safety, not to mention spiritual heritage?

Child sexual abuse is another tragedy that regularly occurs in many school systems and many teachers have abused their students in unfathomable ways during the school day. Many have been caught and stopped, but how many others have yet to answer for their crimes against our children? I once made a presentation in my college days where I addressed this very subject to a group of young teachers going into the field. I was severely berated and asked to leave the education program because my adjunct college professor took it personally. One of her teachers at her school had just been arrested for having sex with a student. I didn’t know that it was one of her teachers that had been arrested. The case remains that teachers do sometimes abuse their students in sexual ways and this is certainly relevant to warn new teachers entering the field.

I’m certainly no expert on education but this collection of writings are just some of the thoughts and ideas that I have had on the subject of education. I took a few education classes in college and taught briefly at a private Christian school, and then began home schooling my two youngest children. All of my older children were publicly educated. So I have seen and learned a few things about the different ways of educating children and I hope my thoughts on the subject might just interest a few people, whether they are teachers or parents, public, private, or home school educators. Education of children is the combined responsibility of us all, and we need to consider how we might educate them best, while keeping them safe from harm, whether by bullets, knives, or sexual predators. It doesn’t take a gun to harm children. It only takes one crazy person with a weapon of any kind or one pedophile with a sick mind to destroy our children’s lives. So I would ask, What are we going to do about it?

Sex, Lies, and Christian Women is the culmination of my writings on the subject of sexuality and the related topics. Most of these writings came after some hard-fought battles to discover what was “normal’ after experiencing childhood sexual abuse at the tender age of only 4 and my later marriage to an abusive husband whose initial ideas of sexuality groomed from the pages of pornography didn’t exactly fit the Christian model I had in mind. The lies I was told, both unspoken and spoken, during these experiences, kept me in sexual bondage for years. Sex is a joyous blessing of God when used in the right ways (be fruitful and multiply), but is the curse of womankind when it is not (objectification). I want women to feel joy when they have sex with their spouses and not feel guilt and shame as I did for many years. Have sex and have fun, but be careful! God bless to all.

Women in Christian Ministry is the culmination of my writings on women’s ministry and related topics of concern. It is a reflection of my personal journey into Christian Ministry and my search for truth in questions concerning a woman’s place in ministry, types of ministry, and whether or not she should be ordained for that purpose. It was an answer to God’s calling on my life and God’s confirmation of that calling. I hope that my journey of faith may help you in your search for truth and encourage you in your calling. This book includes samples of a Baptism, Wedding, and Funeral ceremony. God bless to all!

Being a Proverbs 31 woman seems a little bit intimidating to most of us women, but it can also be viewed as a challenge. The Proverbs 31 woman is an ideal woman that God has in mind for us, and this should be our goal as well. This paraphrase and Bible study gives us a picture of what a Proverbs 31 woman might look like today. As we can see, her employments are many. She buys real estate, she plants a garden, she is a sales person, she is a manufacturer, and she is a distributor. She is like Lydia in Acts 16:14, who was a seller of purple goods. Both of these women were godly women, who worked and helped make money to support their families. Some people believe these were home-based businesses, and I believe that is the ideal, as well. If we can stay at home with our families and work, then I believe we should, but if your employment takes you elsewhere (to the riverside or to the city) then we will do what’s necessary for our family.

Parenting Little People is a collection of writings by Sis. Kimberly M. Hartfield related to parenting. She discusses many topics from Breastfeeding, Co-sleeping, Vaccinations, Discipline, Bullying, Puberty, Media influences, Sexuality, Spiritual Growth, to Teen addictions and suicide. Some of these writings were originally written for a child audience and can be read and discussed with your children. Others are directed toward the parent in the hope that they will guide and encourage mothers to make wise decisions in mothering their children or at least be thought provoking enough to challenge mothers to be the best they can be. Mothering in today’s world is less than easy, and mothers aren’t perfect, just forgiven. We are real people and God is a real God, who can fix all that is wrong with us if we only let Him! We need to put our trust in the God who is in control of the storms in our lives and says, Peace, Be still!

Diane Langberg said in her book Counseling Survivors of Sexual Abuse, “We who call ourselves Christians blaspheme the name of Christ if we pretend that the evils of the Holocaust or the rape of little girls and boys are less than they truly are.” She had grown up in a secure and healthy home and had been warned as a new counselor not to believe “hysterical” women, who told her of the horrors they had experienced. I’m so glad she chose not to take that ungodly advice. She says that salvation that doesn’t take this kind of evil into account is no salvation at all. I whole heartedly agree with her sentiments. There are still so many today that stick their holy heads in the sand of their blessed Scriptures and ignore all the passages about the evils of this world. They pick and choose the good and pretend as if the evil didn’t exist. Well, as a former victim and now survivor of childhood sexual abuse and domestic violence, they might want to call me one of those “hysterical” women, and as a Christian counselor of other victims, I just want to pull their little holy heads out of the sand and say, look, this is real people in a real evil world.

This book is a compilation of my previous writings on the topics of childhood sexual abuse and rape. It’s certainly not comprehensive with my limited understanding of the issues involved, but I hope it will be of some benefit to those who read its content. It covers topics such as those a victim might need to read and other topics that might interest those who counsel and advocate for them. It includes some stories of victims who I’ve met, and others who I’ve only read about, but who have all cried out their silent screams and found no one listening. I found in my own search that though there were organizations out there in the secular realm, there were not very many Christian organizations to help Christian victims heal. It’s my hope that all those out there who are searching for answers to their heartaches will know that at least I’ve heard them, and will do what I can to help them, as long as there is breath left in me. My own story is in my previous book, A Little Redneck Theology, if readers of this book find it helpful and want to know more about me and why I began my ministry, Go Fish Ministries, inc. which may be located online at https://gofishministries.wordpress.com.

Don’t be Silent: Stop Domestic Violence is a compilation of Kimberly Hartfield’s writings on Domestic violence. Whether you are a victim or someone advocating for the rights of victims, or a counselor who is interested in working with victims, this book will give you a glimpse of what you can do to help yourself or others out of the cycle of abuse. It is written from a Christian perspective and does not necessarily promote divorce as the ultimate answer to domestic violence, but shows how faith in God can help some women through Domestic violence and save their marriage.

In Matt. 24, Mark 13, and Luke 17, 21 Jesus tells the followers about a time when the world will be in chaos with wars, famines, disease, tsunamis, earthquakes, persecution of Christians and Jews, lack of love, lack of interest in the church, cosmological chaos, and so forth. This time period is described as being like birth pangs which get stronger and closer together as the time draws near. We are already experiencing the beginnings of trouble, with nation coming against nation, and land against land: with a great lack of food, and deadly diseases, and natural disasters, in many different places. These are hard times to be sure, but they aren’t without the grace of Almighty God.

What’s the evidence? Was Jesus Christ a real person and is the Bible just a myth? These questions have probably been asked by most people at one time or another in their lives. We owe it to ourselves to delve into the truth and find the answers that we can both live and die with. The answer to these questions has eternal consequences. Whether to believe or not to believe could determine whether you find yourself in heaven or hell. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to God except by Me.” Was he just a man, or was He God in the flesh? What do you believe? Are you willing to bet your life on it?

Now includes the gospel of John, which makes it a great witnessing tool.

This Go Fish Ministries publication is a paraphrase of both the Proverbs and Psalms (Sayings and Hymns). Its main purpose is to present a simplified version to those who have difficulty understanding more traditional ones, especially children and teens. My inspiration was to give my own children a more understandable, easier to read text, and one that would encourage them and other young people to read the Word of God. Many Biblical versions were considered in the interpretation of this version, in which the starting point was the original King James Version. Other versions considered were the New King James Version, the Good News Bible, the Living Bible, the American Standard Version, the Revised Standard Version, and Others, along with a study of many of the original Hebrew words from the Strong’s Concordance and Dictionary. The main departure from these common versions is the use of the proper Name of God, which is now commonly understood to be Yahweh.

When I began homeschooling the last two of my eight children, the Little House books were the first on our reading list. I created these worksheets to go along with our reading and found them very helpful to us as homeschoolers. I put them up on my website and they got more views than I had ever imagined. So I knew there was a need for them and I had hoped to make them available at little or no cost to homeschoolers, as I know how expensive homeschool materials can cost.

I believe these will be even more useful in a printed booklet, so I decided to publish them in a more traditional method, in a workbook format. I hope this workbook will help parents and children learn together and encourage them to learn about some of the old ways of doing things. I hope that users will find them a great help in their homeschool endeavors.

A Little Redneck Theology in Verse is a companion volume to A Little Redneck Theology and Other Stuff from a Southern Baptist Ordained Evangelical Female Minister, written by Kimberly M. Hartfield. It is a book of Christian based inspirational verse written during a three year time frame, a record of Kimberly’s spiritual journey, spoken of in the latter title. Many of the poems in this volume are based on Scripture and many have cultural and political inspiration and messages. A Little Redneck Theology in Verse is not a book of ordinary poetry, but poetry that will convict, challenge, and inspire you to greater spiritual growth.

A Little Redneck Theology

and Other Stuff from a Southern Baptist Evangelical Female Ordained Minister

and Nook

My husband was a true red-neck Southern Baptist. Since I had met him in the church, he didn’t quite fit the description of an unbeliever, so biblically speaking, I was bound to him forever, or until he died. In our early marriage, he believed that a little pornography spiced up the undefiled marriage bed. He believed in calling every woman he disagreed with, especially me, everything but a child of God. He believed in hitting his wife on occasion to “keep her obedient.” The only time he seemed to believe in calling on God was when he used God’s name to damn everything in creation or whenever I threatened to leave him. He believed in going to the sanctuary on Sunday’s; that is, the ones down by the lakeside, deep in the woods, or in front of the TV for a football game. He believed in attending church with his family only once in a blue moon. He didn’t believe in women in the church speaking behind the pulpit, but he wasn’t particularly fond of men speaking behind the pulpit either. He believed that God is a full-fledge Male God, with like attributes. Yes, he was a true down-home red-neck Southern Baptist. Needless to say, I am not exactly a Southern Baptist any more.

Living on the Wild Side

Crisis Gardening and Survival Scavenging in the South

Authored by Kimberly M. Hartfield

From basic gardening skills to building a log cabin, Kimberly Hartfield gives you a glance at living skills that may be needed in a crisis event, such as long term unemployment, natural disasters, war, etc. After living through Hurricane Katrina, and being virtually unemployed for several years, Kimberly believes it is necessary to be able to provide for our families, even when grocery stores are closed and access to needed items are not being provided by government intervention. Kimberly gives you a basic introduction to and overview of gardening skills, raising rabbits and chickens for meat and eggs, wild food and medicinal plant scavenging, what you might need in an emergency and even how to build an emergency shelter, or a log house if the need should arise. She has had to learn herself how to do many of these things, and would like to share with you what she has learned over the last few years. God has given her the knowledge to survive and as a Christian, she believes that God wants her to share that information with those who might need it at some point and doesn’t want to depend on the government to bail them out when that time comes.

It’s Ok to Say No

This book,  It’s Ok to Say No Workbook Program, is to be read by adults and children and discussed with children about circumstances in which it may be appropriate for them to say no to someone or something that may be dangerous to themselves or others, such as inappropriate words, touches, or other harmful actions. It can be used with homeschoolers, and children’s groups such as AWANA, Scouts, Sunday School, Boys and Girls Clubs, etc. It was primarily written for ages 5 – 13, but it may be appropriate for even younger ages, as long as anything unclear to the child is adequately explained.  Older children may use it workbook style and write their answers, which should be reviewed by an available and knowledgeable adult.  The primary program goal is to make children aware that there are some circumstances when it is appropriate for them to say no to protect themselves from those who would harm them.  It’s secondary goal is to give parents, group leaders, or other adults and children an avenue for communication about these kinds of circumstances.

Jesus, Friend of Children

This publication, Jesus, the Friend of Children, which is a fictional story based on Biblical themes, is designed to give a therapeutic approach to prevention and healing of child abuse in all its forms, whether physical, emotional, or sexual.  It employs the use of art therapy somewhat, and has room for the child who is using it to illustrate the story line and draw pictures from their own life, which are related to the themes presented in this book.  It also includes a resource in the back of the book for adults who are dealing with issues related to childhood sexual abuse.
